From the top of the podium to the broadcast booth

The first Olympic champion and 2019 world champion, Italo Ferreira, will be the surfing commentator at Paris 2024 for the broadcast of the giant that is Globo Television.

Ferreira did not qualify for the Olympics and Brazil's largest channel announced the news with 100 minutes remaining until the start of the games.

“It is a great honor for me to be part of the history of the Olympic Games. Today I look back on my surfing career and everything I have achieved with great gratitude. I am a guy who likes to have new experiences in different areas and to be challenged. When Globo approached me to be a commentator for the Paris Games, I was very happy for this recognition. It even brought back memories of my childhood when I watched the Olympic Games on TV Globo,” he said, according to the AOS Mídia website.

“This time I will be able to experience the other side, which is behind the scenes. Of course, the desire to be there surfing and representing Brazil is huge, but my fans here will be even bigger. It will be a challenge and I am looking forward to bringing to the Brazilians all my knowledge and experience of being the first gold medalist in surfing at the Olympic Games,” he concluded.

Olympic surfing is scheduled to take place between July 27 and August 5.
