Jeronimo Vargas from Brazil won the Latin Pipe Masters

The Brazilian climbed 50 places in the rankings. Jacob Willcox of Australia placed second

Brazilian Jeronimo Vargas was crowned champion of the Maui and Sons Arica Pro Tour, QS 3000 which concluded today in four to six foot pipes, breaking consistently at the Latin Pipe that is El Gringo de Arica. This is the first victory for the Brazilian who with 3000 points catapults himself into the top 30 of the world ranking.

The Brazilian won with a score of 10 and a 7,50. The Australian Willcox came close but fell short with a score of 17,17. However, this second place catapulted him from 328th place to the top 100.

Overwhelmed after being carried by all his friends, Vargas said he still didn't know how he felt, that it was a very strong feeling because it was the first victory of his career. "My goal was to reach the primes and now I have achieved it," he said.

Meanwhile, Willcox, who had just had four bad results on the circuit, found some good news on the tubes of El Gringo. He entered and exited countless tubes with great class. He narrowly missed winning, with one minute left and needing just over eight, he was spit out by a left and gave the judges a lot to think about.

He was finally awarded 7,67. From that moment on, a Brazilian party broke out, disregarding any protocol, and he jumped into the middle of the celebration and carried his friend.

At the awards ceremony, it was mentioned on more than one occasion that they were doing everything possible to ensure that the Arica QS went from awarding 3000 to 6000 points.

It would be something that would do a lot of good to QS, which has so many poor quality waves and so few like those found in the Latin Pipeline that is El Gringo.
