French surfer Joan Duru won the 2023 edition of the Quemao Class in a very solid way, which concluded today after two days of impressive waves at the classic break in Lanzarote, Canary Islands.
A local from the French Landes, where barrel waves abound, Duru was motivated throughout the event, scoring a 10 yesterday and another today after finding his way out on a couple of impressive waves.
In the grand final he scored a 9 which he backed up with a 7,67 to achieve a 16,67 that was only close to the young goofy footer, also French, Sam Pitter, who with a 9,23 needed 7,44 with first priority until the last seconds.
A bomb came but it didn't tube as expected.
In third place was the Portuguese Joao Mendonça and in fourth the Basque Aritz Aranburu.
“I am very happy. This is the best wave in the world. Thanks to the locals for letting us surf,” the Frenchman said, among other things, after getting out of the water.
