With an impressive backside attack on the rights of La Bocana, Frenchman Joan Duru won the gold medal at the historic Surf City ISA World Surfing Games.
In a series with two CT members, Duru won with 14,94, leaving Kanoa Igarashi in second with 13,74, Jeremy Flores in third with 12,94 and Hiroto Ohhara in fourth with 6,83.
Duru had no interest in this event other than winning it because his two compatriots, Michel Bourez and Jeremy Flores, were already qualified for Tokyo 2020 when the tournament began.
He quietly cruised through to round 7 through the main event, bounced back in the repechage final and won the event.
