One of the most complete surfers on the planet, Peruvian Joaquín del Castillo, became the newest member of the Vissla team last week, the brand announced today on its Vissla Peru account.

The presentation video of the new addition highlights one of the main characteristics of the surfer, which is his family's special connection with the sea: Fishermen who cook and sell ceviche with what they catch.

Furthermore, Joaquín himself says that his parents Cecilia and Paco gave him as an inheritance “the art of living simply and enjoying nature to the fullest.”

Speaking to DUKE, Joaquín said about his new contract: “I feel good, happy. I feel that all the years I have been fighting and doing what I love are bearing fruit. All the training, all the trips, the competitions… It is also a family job because my family has been working with me since I was very young and I think that now the fruits are being seen.”

He added: “The approach (with the brand) arose like a normal day here in Punta Hermosa, at home, with Jonathan Gubbins and Gabriel Villarán. It was something very spontaneous… They are like my older brothers, since I was very young I have always admired them and now that they are betting on me fills me with confidence in every way.”

Regarding the future and his plans with the brand, he said: “The plans are full of surfing, they are going to help me grow as a surfer, as a person and as a professional. I think that at this stage of my career it is a step forward for me and I am taking it in the best way, seriously, training more and focusing more. I think that this is going to make me push my limits further, and I think that there will be a Joaquín del Castillo totally focused on his surfing, as always but now with a different mentality. All in all, I am happy to be in the family and represent it in the world.”

Del Castillo is one of the few surfers in the world capable of executing the most innovative aerials in half-meter waves, getting tubes on 8-foot lefts and landing 50-foot Jaws.

This winter in Hawaii, the bomb of the day was dropped on the heaviest day Pipe has ever had, and it was applauded and published in various media around the world.
