Joaquin del Castillo suffered an accident in Pipe

He must undergo surgery in Hawaii and is asking the community for help to do so.


Peruvian Joaquín del Castillo had an accident while surfing in Pipe yesterday, injuring his hip and will have to undergo surgery in Hawaii, he, his family and friends reported on social media.

“He is out of danger but he suffered a serious hip fracture. Due to his critical condition, he will not be able to travel to Peru and will have to undergo surgery in Hawaii. Joaquin does not have health insurance but I know that together we can do our part to help him so that he can return to Peru with his family,” wrote his cousin Sebastian Gomez.

Del Castillo, a Pipe specialist who has had some of the most outstanding Pipe performances during the Backdoor Shootout, was training for the event when he suffered the accident.
