Joel Tudor calls on WSL to pay female longboarders better

And share strong evidence for it to happen

The best longboarder in history, current world champion, Joel Tudor shared a post in which he asks that female longboarders be paid more based on the fact that they receive much more audience than female surfers, as he argues and shows by exemplifying with posts and their reproductions.

Tagging the WSL, Commissioner Jessi Miley Dyer and CEO Erik Logan, she asks: “Can you please explain what kind of equality this is?” “Not very clear of you to treat female longboarders with such disrespect when it comes to pay. It seems clear from your own Instagram which style is most preferred by your audience!”

She then calls on longboarders, parents and friends to write to the WSL “why this is still happening.” She mentions that they are planning to cancel the longboard tour to just one tournament.

“Talk to them, post about this and make noise so that things get done right!” the message concludes.

Tudor shows that a post by Carissa at Pipe has 132.000 views and a post of a female longboard at Slater's pool has 630.000, then another by Carissa, also at Pipe 110.000 versus 378.000 and then another by Backdoor with 278.000 versus 661.000 and finally one by Tatiana Weston Webb with 146.000 versus a female longboard with 343.000.

Finally, the prizes are awarded: The winner of a CT takes home $80.000 and the winner of a longboard stage $12.500.

The post caused a stir in the community, Kassia Meadon, Kaniela Stewart, Mafer Reyes, Steve Sawyer, Nacho Pignataro, among others, commented on the post supporting what Tudor said.

The WSL has not yet commented.
