Sunday was a slow day on the North Shore of Oahu and with the Billabong Pro Pipeline expected to restart today, John John spent his time surfing, testing boards, talking to the shaper and reviewing shots.
According to DUKE filmmaker Juani Gayol, who created this video, coach Ross Williams, shaper Jon Pyzel and filmmaker Erik Knutson were present. John John brought three boards and what he did was go in, surf some waves, get out, look at the shots and choose another board.
Inside the water was Pyzel with whom he exchanged concepts and outside was Williams who would give him his input on each board and on his surfing.
The Hawaiian stood out among a large number of groms surfing small waves on the sunny Sunday.
John John faces Kolohe Andino in their round of 32 series.
The Billabong Pro Pipeline is expected to resume today after three days of no competition.
