Two-time world champion John John Florence has signed up for the Volcom Pipe Pro and is expected to make his return to competition at the event after more than six months without wearing a lycra due to a knee injury he suffered in Bali, Indonesia.

Although he has not confirmed it himself, and is not expected to do so until the day of the tournament itself, he appears to be registered for the competition and the WSL has already announced that this event will mark the surfer's competitive return.

It's one of the best tournaments on the calendar, at the queen of waves, Banzai Pipeline, with a long waiting period and 144 of the best tube surfers on the planet.

John John won this tournament in 2012, in a stunning final that was turned around after he caught a wave in the last 15 seconds, beating Jamie O'Brien who already had 19,40 points out of a possible 20. He needed a 9,4 and was given a 9,93. O'Brien, who had raised his arms, saw John John paddling frantically and did not understand, he chased him to see him land a bomb that took the victory out of his hands.

Other names that appear registered in the tournament, in the main draw, are Carlos Muñoz, Alonso Correa, Aritz Aranburu, Miguel Tudela, Leandro Usuna, Manuel Selman, Guillermo Satt, Cristobal de Col, Joaquin del Castillo, Alvaro Malpartida, Nicolas Vargas, Gabriel Villaran, Sebastian Correa and Tomas Lopez Moreno.

Some of those waiting to enter are Giorgio Gómez, Dwight Pastrana, Aldo Chirinos, and Martín Jerí.
