Three-time world champion John John Florence will not return to the world tour in 2026 because he wants to extend his family life and adventure, which began last year sailing around the world, the WSL said in a statement.

“Exploring with my family, we learned new ways of life, discovered new places, found waves for the three of us, and woke up almost every day eager to see more and do it all together,” said Florence. “It really confirmed that this is our dream right now. We’ve decided to continue in 2026 with the goal of hopefully surfing around the world. I want to be a better surfer; I want to be the best father I can be, and combine it all with an endless sense of adventure and curiosity.” “This means I won’t be competing full-time on the tour this year,” Florence continued. “I’m very grateful to the WSL for their support and the opportunity to receive the wildcard this year. This isn’t a retirement; it’s simply the path I’m following for now.”

John John's place was taken by Moroccan Ramzi Boukhiam, who was given the injury wildcard.

“I’m incredibly excited to be returning to the CT and grateful to the WSL for this opportunity,” said Boukhiam. “Last year’s injury was the toughest of my career, with a recovery full of ups and downs. But God is great, I never stopped believing, and in the end, everything worked out. I’m ready to give it my all this year and enjoy every moment of the tour surfing in amazing spots. Morocco, we’re back on tour, let’s go!”

The tour begins in Bells Beach, Australia, between April 1 and 10.
