Jhonny Guerrero's film also won the people's vote and a special prize at the Brooklyn festival

They point out that this is the first time in the 23-year history of the festival that this triple has been achieved.

Into the Storm “In the Storm,” the film that follows the life of young Peruvian talent Jhonny Guerrero, also won the popular vote and the Grand Chameleon Award, “which rewards the film that best represents the edition of the Brooklyn film festival” that concluded yesterday.

On Saturday, the jury announced the documentary's victory in the best documentary category, and two more awards were added to that, which, according to the Instagram account, is the first time in the 23-year history that this has happened.

“I feel very proud of what we have achieved with this film. The reaction from people around the world, but particularly in Peru, has been incredible. The country has been in a difficult quarantine with many difficult people so it has been great to share this story with them during this week and talk to so many people from Peru about the film,” wrote the film’s director Adam Brown on his Instagram.

“It’s been quite a journey since I started filming in late 2014, with so many uncertainties and so much blind faith in the story. For a long time it was about me, Jose (Plaza) and Jhonny as well as my amazing wife Olivia who shared my confidence that the film should be made,” he added.

Meanwhile, Peruvian filmmaker José Plaza, who also made the film, wrote on his Instagram: “Thank you to everyone who voted and those who connected with Jhonny’s story, it will surely be a positive chain reaction for many teenagers in Peru.”

The film was made available this week and is now awaiting a re-release date, likely at another festival, the director told DUKE.
