Peruvian Jonathan Gubbins has been making headlines around the world for his performances in Indonesia for a couple of decades now.

His hits at Desert Point, Namibia, Hawaii, and other locations were featured on magazine and web page covers on more than one occasion.

After a harsh lockdown in Peru last year, one of the most traveled surfers in the world decided to change his life and maybe try living with his whole family in Indonesia.

In a brief interview he comments on his new life and what is happening in paradise.

How did you manage to get to Indo? What are the restrictions on getting to paradise now?
I arrived in early May. I spent five days in Jakarta with my wife and children, and Kirfa (Lens) in another room. We couldn't go out, they gave us tests and brought us food.

We had already planned to settle in Indo after a year in which we could not travel. We only traveled to Hawaii at the beginning of the year, a trip that we had to interrupt for family reasons.

Aside from getting back into the best tubes of your life, what was the main goal of this trip?
I want to keep putting effort into my career. I have been making uninterrupted videos for years and right at the moment of greatest recognition, the idea is to continue. I have to thank my family for their sacrifices.

Indo is in some ways a second home for you, what was it like to be away from there for so long?
Yes, Indo is my second home and there are possibilities that I will move here for a few years and travel from here to other destinations. It is an incredible place, the people are first class, the economy never stops growing. I love my country but we are evaluating that option.

What have you seen that's different there?
I don't know if it's different, but I've been able to get to know the places a little better with my family and I see a country that is just waiting for the pandemic to end in order to continue its growth. Asia in general is leading the developing world. Indonesia is different from what it was a few years ago, it has the example of Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Jakarta is a super city, etc. It's nice to see that mentality in this part of the world.
