Juca de Barros, former president of the Brazilian Surfing Confederation, has passed away

“Great Juca, he was fundamental in my career and in that of many others. Go with God, friend,” wrote Alejo Muñiz

Former Brazilian surfing confederation president Juca de Barros died today for unknown reasons, according to the Waves website and CBS.

De Barros was president of CBS for several terms, at the beginning of the 2000s, specifically between 2002 and 2009, and was in charge of the country's teams that won several gold medals, especially in youth world championships and Pan American games, such as the gold won by Alejo Muñiz in France in 2007 or the victories at the South American Beach Games in Punta del Este.

After he left, Brazilian surfing experienced a decline in ISA events.

In addition to being president of the CBS, he created the surfing federation of his state, Paraná.

In the comments, current CBS president Teco Padaratz said goodbye by saying: “An incredible loss! Great brother and collaborator for the evolution of the sport of surfing! Especially in the State of Paraná! Go with God on your way, brother!”

Muñiz himself added: “Great Juca, he was fundamental in my career and in that of many others. God bless my friend.”
