Justine Dupont: “He told me to excuse him, that he hadn’t seen me”
Another tense moment occurred in the Teahupoo lineup yesterday; the Frenchwoman brushed against a local bodyboarder. Both emerged unscathed.
The Teahupoo line-up in Tahiti yesterday experienced another of those incredible situations that resulted in everyone involved being unscathed by just inches.
It is worth remembering that tube by Raimana Van Bastolaer where a Jetski practically touches her existence.
In solid to great conditions, with several surfers towing in and others paddling out, or alternating, as Justine Dupont recounted in her post, the Frenchwoman had a close encounter with a bodyboarder.
In his version of events, as presented in the post, after surfing a good intermediate paddle and eating several wipe outs, he decided to go for some tow with the legendary Vetea Poto David.
He says that in the first one he positioned himself very far forward, in the second one he got a good tube and in the third one this happened. He hesitated whether to straighten his line, jump off the board or continue forward, which is what he finally did.
The bodyboarder lightly hit him on the arm but nothing serious happened. When it was over, “he told me to excuse him, that he hadn’t seen me,” and added: “He told me to excuse him, that he hadn’t seen me. It’s part of surfing and there are no problems, the important thing is that neither of us got hurt.”
