The US Open longboard division was defeated by Australian Kai Ellice Flint and American Avalon Gall in what was, in terms of rankings, a surprising result.
Ellice Flint, an enigmatic and traditional longboarder, defeated defending world champion Taylor Jensen in the grand final in a close final that ended 13,83 to 12,06.
The conservative Australian was seen giving it his all in the small waves at HB, showing off his new form, and leaves Surf City USA leading the rankings.
Prior to the final against Jensen, he beat Johnny the Ripper in the semis and Steven Sawyer in the quarters.
For his part, Avalon Gall showed the form and rhythm that HB was asking for in small waves, finding the reforms and connecting with small waves to the shore with grace and style that the judges knew how to appreciate.
In the grand final she beat Soleil Errico by a landslide, 13,5 to 6,87.
Previously, she narrowly defeated Malia Ilagan in the semis and talented Hawaiian Kelis Kaleopaa in the quarterfinals.
The longboard tour now continues to Bells Beach, where the second leg will take place from September 17th to 21st.
