The surfer from the Basque Country has just won bronze in the Under 18 category of the ISA Junior World Championships that just concluded on the waves of Macumba beach, Rio de Janeiro.
This is Kai's first bronze in the event, after finishing ninth last year in El Salvador.
Odriozola started the final by winning, scoring an 8,07 which he quickly backed up with a 6,17 to take the lead.
With more than 10 minutes on the clock, local Brazilian Ryan Kainalo, who already had a 6,17, began to build his house and connected several attacks with aerials to add a 7,7 and a 7,67.
Meanwhile, in the final minutes of the series, the Portuguese Francisco Ordonhas achieved a 7,87 after making two strong backside attacks to take the silver from the Basque.
Odriozola's first medal was given 50 minutes after his brother Hans won a historic gold for Spain in the Under 16 category, making them the only brothers in recent World Championships to have made podiums in two different categories.
First, third and great consistency from the entire Spanish team made them repeat the fifth place achieved last year in El Salvador, when they also achieved two podiums: Hans' copper and Lucía Machado's silver.
