Kala Grace's health condition has improved
He managed to breathe on his own; he still has several days left in the hospital and they opened a Gofundme to help with the bills that his hospitalization generates.
The health of Hawaiian professional Kala Grace has improved, his family reported in a statement. GoFundMe they made to raise funds to pay for medical costs.
Grace was intubated, breathing with the help of a machine, and after a test, he was able to breathe on his own and so the tube was removed.
In addition, brain injuries were ruled out after a CT scan was performed.
According to the Waikiki Beach Boys account, the Hawaiian was caught by a wave, then took a series to the head. During the trip, he lost the helmet he always wears and then hit the reef.
Lifeguard Nolan Keaulana is being thanked by his family for coming to his aid quickly.
They said he will spend several days in the hospital because they want to prevent him from suffering a respiratory infection, caused by the sand and water in his lungs.
When he woke up, while intubated, he used paper and pencil to write to his parents: “Everything is going to be okay.”
