Kanoa Igarashi won her second consecutive US Open

The Huntington Beach local returned to the top of the podium in an electric final against Griffin Colapinto

Kanoa Igarashi won his second US Open of Surfing on Sunday after showing consistency and risk taking in a highly entertaining final against Griffin Colapinto.

Unlike what happened in other tournaments and even in other series of this edition, in the final there were many waves surfed and the positions changed several times. In the end, with three minutes left and needing a 7,83, he did what he had not done in the previous waves: He took a risk. He almost fell, but he completed it and after completing it he celebrated in an excessive way.

Colapinto surfed one more wave but did not reach the 7,78 he needed. The final score was 15,77 versus 15.

"I felt like someone caught me and I knew I was going to get the score as soon as I stood on that wave. The whole event I was thinking about what I was going to do in that final and it was really hard but I knew Huntington was going to give me the waves and he did," said an elated Igarashi after getting out of the water.

For his part, Griffin Colapinto simply commented that the final was one of the best memories of his life in Huntington Beach: "It was one of the best exchanges I've had in my life, I'm happy," he said.

Courtney Conlogue came back in style and won the US Open of Surfing
After being injured for the first few months of the year, Californian Courtney Conlogue came back in style and won the US Open of Surfing, an event that she is a local and always a favorite in. She beat none other than the current leader of the ranking, Steph Gilmore.

In the final, Conlogue was more patient and waited longer for waves on the outside, while Gilmore was more active in looking for waves on the outside. The Californian's formula proved to be more effective, winning with 13,83 versus 11,86.

With this result, the Californian is now closer to the qualifying zone, with only two thirteenths and one victory.

"It's been a great journey, it's been a tough year. It wasn't easy to recover, being on top of the podium is loving everything, loving surfing, the best feeling in the world. It was a great final with Stephanie (...). After losing at Supergirls I told myself that I had to push my level and that's what I did," said Conlogue after winning.
