Katz, Muniz, Calderón and Pastrana won the tenth edition of Ale Moreda's Los Gallitos

The classic event celebrated its first decade with more than 80 young people who make the future and present of Puerto Rican surfing

Sage Katz, Dwight Pastrana and Pavel Rivera were the highlights of the historic tenth edition of the Los Gallitos de Ale Moreda youth event that took place on August 18 and 19 at Aviones beach in Puerto Rico.

More than 20 children signed up for the under 10 category, which speaks to how the future looks in the Hawaiian Atlantic. The winner was Paolo Muniz. Another who stood out in this division was Pavel Rivera who, in addition to doing well in the surfing event, placed fourth in the professional skate event in the championship's debut.

Sage Katz, Brian Toth's nephew, stood out again and at 12 years old he won easily with a score of 14,5, far from the 10 points that the second-placed man got. He also won the Under 12 category.

Just like last year, the Pro Junior was won by Dwight Pastrana, who is slowly becoming one of the most internationally renowned names in Puerto Rico. In addition, the goofy footer took home the aerial championship and 1.500 dollars for his pocket.

“We had more than 80 competitors. Unlike last year, we incorporated skateboarding into the event and it was really cool to see the young people surfing and after finishing their heats they went to the ramp to watch or ride it,” Ale Moreda told DUKE.
