As reported a couple of weeks agoSlater had a day of sorrow and glory in Avalon that day.

He broke two boards, went headfirst into a couple, but took a few hits.

"I broke two boards today," Slater told Nine News. "I got a few knocks, I had to pay my dues, I haven't surfed here for a while. It was fun, we were with a fun bunch of lads."
