Kelly's unexpected problem

Everything was ready for success in what seems to be his last comeback, but something unexpected happened: The judges are being very stingy with him.

Kelly Slater looked fit and motivated ahead of the start of the tour. He showed himself breaking waves on social media, competed in a QS tournament with half-metre waves and declared that he would give his all to make this his year and that if he qualified for Tokyo 2020 he would extend his days as a pro.

And he started surfing super well, catching lots of waves and attacking them like he knows how. With a lot of class, with an impressive line, with ease and with a style of surfing that gave him 11 world titles.

What the best in history did not count on was that the judges would behave in a completely different way to how they had previously treated him, when, automatically, a wave from Kelly was worth one more point.

Now it seems that the scores are at least one point less than they appear, looking at the waves.

Many people expressed their dissatisfaction with Kelly's scores. His good wave the day before yesterday could at least be classified as "good (6 to 8)" and the same with yesterday's, which ended with that super radical cut in the middle of the wall, which ended up wrapping around him and from which he successfully emerged.

This presents a tough scenario for the best. The judges are asking Kelly to surf differently than he knows how, which is ultimately what gave him all his titles.

Will he have to start practicing backflips at 47? Or will he have to rely only on Teahupoo and Pipe to get a result? That shouldn't be his start, it would be better for the judges to appreciate the wonder of his surfing. The same one that gave him 11 titles.

The detail below: Neither wave in this series reached six points.
