The greatest of all time, Kelly Slater, joked on the live stream about what's next in his life, saying, "If I get a wildcard (for Pipeline), I'd use it for the rest of my life. It should be like the Masters (in golf) where you win one and you can come back for the rest of your life."

Slater laughed, saying more seriously that he had no plans but: “If I can get into Pipe’s event, I’d love to. We’ll see how that goes, I have to start lobbying; I thought we had some kind of agreement but they already gave me one a year and a half ago so, everything’s fine.”

Slater competed at Pipe last year, at the start of the season, in an event where he finished fifth.

At 54 years old, he just finished ninth in the Teahupoo CT, making two of the best performances of the event and the year, scoring 19,06 out of a possible 20.
