Lacalle Pou confirmed that he already surfed while being president

He did it about two weeks ago on a remote beach in the Maldonado department. "My whole body hurt and I was slow as a turtle, but well, I got my fill," he told DUKE.

Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou, coming out of the water after his first session since taking office, some two weeks ago somewhere on the Fernando de la Frontera coast.

Luis Lacalle Pou confirmed, after being consulted by DUKE, that he surfed for the first time since taking office as president of Uruguay approximately two weeks ago on a remote beach on the coast of Maldonado.

After six months without going into the water, the authority told DUKE that it was difficult for him to get into the rhythm: "My last name even hurt and I was slow as a turtle, but hey, I got my desire."

The session took place at 7:30 in the morning and by noon the authority was already in an official meeting.

In the cold conditions of the South Atlantic just days before winter sets in, a photo accessed by DUKE from that day (see above) shows him wearing a 4/3 wetsuit from Australian brand Rip Curl, booties and his ...Lost x Lib Tech 5'7 board under his arm.

The same photo (see above) shows him smiling, with wet hair as he emerges from the water in what was, perhaps, the only surfing session by a surfer president in history.

The agenda of the man who is considered the first true surfer president in history was marked by the management of the emergency that marked the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic in Uruguay. The small South American country has stood out among its neighbors in the region, with only 84 active cases, more than 900 confirmed and 27 deaths. In Uruguay, a mandatory quarantine or curfew was never decreed.

After 100 days of his presidency, a survey conducted by the consulting firm Equipos showed that 63% of the population approves of his management.

In an interview with DUKE conducted in December of last year after his election was confirmedLacalle Pou declared that he would surf as president but that he would do so with the restraint that the position deserves.

He also said on that occasion: "I believe that the President of the Republic should be known by everything, that is, they should know the person, not the character, with his defects, with his virtues and with this (surfing), which is part of my life."
