Latin champion Lucas Madrid tested positive for Covid-19
"I want to use this video to raise awareness. I have not had direct contact with anyone who has tested positive and I have been at home for eight days," he says in a video he shared on social media.
Latin American surfing champion, Uruguayan Lucas Madrid, tested positive for Covid-19, as he himself reported in a video he shared on his social networks, and with this he becomes the first regionally renowned surfer to be infected with the virus that has the world in suspense.
Madrid says that “a couple of days ago” he had been coughing and had a body ache, but he downplayed it, thinking it was due to the pain from training. The reality check came yesterday after he had showered after another training session and felt more body aches and fever.
The surfer received private care and had all the symptoms, but since he had not had direct contact with an infected person, the Ministry of Health denied him the test kit, but his health insurance gave him a test.
“Obviously it’s difficult,” Lucas said emotionally, adding: “I live with my mother, she’s an older person, a smoker, and well, I’m isolated in my room, as you can see.”
“I want to use this video to raise awareness. I have not had direct contact with anyone who has tested positive and I have been at home for eight days (…) Please, let's not be selfish, let's think of others. If we have to leave home, let's think twice. Let's take care of each other. And I also have a request for surfers. I know that sometimes it is difficult when we have waves not to go surfing. Let's think twice about whether it is really necessary and let's not be selfish, let's help each other, let's accompany each other where we can, and together we will get through this,” Madrid said.
