Legendary Hawaiian shaper Cino Magallanes has passed away

Legendary Hawaiian shaper Cino Magallanes passed away early Monday morning on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, his son Jason reported on social media.

“I always knew this day would come but not that it would be so soon and so sudden. It is with a heavy and broken heart that at five o’clock this morning my beloved father Cino Magallanes passed on to his next life,” his son wrote on Instagram.

Cino Magallanes was 74 years old and for the past 40 years he was one of the best Hawaiian shapers of big wave boards, a member of the team of shapers of the renowned brand Hawaiian Island Creation and creator of several successful boards.

Magallanes' death quickly shocked the surfing community. Mick Fanning, Jon Pyzel, Eli Olson, Dave Wassel, Joel Tudor and several Latin surfers expressed their condolences in the comments on the post or on their own profiles.
