Leilani McGonagle of Costa Rica, Candelaria Resano of Nicaragua, Daniella Rosas of Peru, Estela López Cross of Chile, Lucía Indurain of Argentina and Melanie Giunta of Peru have made it to round 4 of the main women's event of the ISA World Championships taking place in El Salvador and are one series away from having a real chance of qualifying for Tokyo 2020.

Ladies who lose in round 5 fall to round 8 of the repechage where their worst possible result is a 9 or 11.

With seven spots available for women in the Olympic Games and two CT members still present in El Salvador (Sally Fitzgibbons and Stephanie Gilmore), it is plausible to think that a ninth-place finisher could qualify.

The aforementioned surfers had a great day in La Bocana, McGonagle, Indurain, and Giunta won their heats and Resano, Rosas and López finished in second place.

Here's how the women's round 4 of the main event turned out:

On the losing side, Spain suffered a hard setback, losing Ariane Ochoa and Leticia Canales. The same happened to Argentina with Ornella Pellizzari and Josefina Ané. Also falling to the repechage were the Mexican Asaya Brusa, the Chilean Lorena Fica, the Nicaraguan Valentina Resano, the Uruguayan Marcela Machado and the Puerto Rican Faviola Alcalá, who will now compete in the fourth round of the repechage.

In the men's draw, Isauro Elizondo of Panama, Aritz Aranburu of Spain, Miguel Tudela of Peru, Alan Cleland of Mexico and Manuel Selman of Chile have already guaranteed a place in the top 25 of the event after advancing to round 4.

As for their Olympic hopes, it is plausible to think that if they advance two more rounds via the main event, their chances are good of making it to Tokyo. If they make it to round 6 of the main event, their worst possible result is ninth.

With five qualifying and six CT members still in the running, ninth seems to be a fairly safe position for qualification.

Here's how the men's main event round 4 heats turned out:

Round 3 saw Jonathan Gonzalez, Francisco Bellorin, Bryan Perez, Tao Rodriguez, Guillermo Satt and Santiago Muñiz fall to the repechage, they will now fight from round 4 of the repechage.

Among Spanish-speaking countries, Peru is the best off with three surfers still alive in the main event, followed by Chile with two, and then Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Nicaragua and Spain each have one surfer.
