Leilani McGonagle placed third in Huntington and guaranteed herself a spot in the challengers

The North American qualifiers closed and also included Lucca Mesinas and Jhony Corzo in the preliminary phase of the CT; Brisa Hennessy was crowned champion of the women's regional tour

Costa Rican Leilani McGonagle placed third at the QS 1000 Jacks Pro that took place this weekend in Huntington Beach, California, and guaranteed herself a spot in the WSL Challenger Series, which is the qualifying phase for the CT Tour, the first division of world surfing.

McGonagle advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament, where she faced the eventual winner, young Caitlin Simmers, who defeated her 15 to 12,25.

The result did not change the Costa Rican's score line, which already had 2385 points and finished eighth in a ranking that classifies eight surfers for the challengers.

The North American women's regional series were won by Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy, who took third place in Sydney and the Central Coast, as well as victory in the China tournament.

On the men's side, Carlos Muñoz placed fifth in the tournament and, although he improved in the ranking, he did not manage to get into the top 10 men who qualify for the challengers, finishing the tour in 24th position.

Those who did qualify were Lucca Mesinas, who finished third, and Jhony Corzo, who finished seventh.

The men's event was won by Nat Young who also took home the regional champion's cup.
