Leilani McGonagle won the Krui Pro and entered the top 20 of the ranking

It was another epic tournament on the perfect lefts of Sumatra. Nadia Erostarbe placed third and Ruben Vitoria fifth.

Costa Rican Leilani McGonagle achieved her third victory on the QS circuit today, Saturday, in one of the events with the most perfect waves on the calendar, the Krui Pro, QS 1000 that takes place in the south of the island of Sumatra, Indonesia.

In the final she defeated Hawaiian Keala Tomoda-Bennett by 14,84 to 13,76. Prior to that she had won every competition she had entered.

“I’m shaking right now!” said the Pavones local. “I know how well he surfs and I know he can get high scores, so I was never sure he had won until he was done. This is one of the most incredible waves I’ve ever seen for a contest. Winning feels great, it reminds you why we travel all over the world and work so hard. I feel great.”

Third place in the championship went to Basque surfer Nadia Erostarbe, who lost in the first semi-final, precisely against Keala Tomoda.

Among the men, young Ruben Vitoria put in an impressive performance and reached the quarter-finals, where he met Kiwi Elliot Paerata Reid. The result of more than 1000 points translates into his best championship of the year.

Noe Mar McGonagle, Anthony Fillingim, Lucca Mesinas and Aritz Aranburu had an expressive result, staying on the threshold of the quarter-finals.

Give Leilani a perfect left and she'll be the talk of the town. Her three historic victories on the QS tour were precisely on left pointbreaks: Punta de Lobos, Barbados and now Krui. All photos: WSL/Hain
