Usuna and McGonagle were elected members of the ISA athletes' commission

Leandro Usuna of Argentina and Leilani McGonagle of Costa Rica were elected to the ISA Athletes' Commission in a historic election in which surfers from around the world voted.
It took place between September 15 and 20 during the ISA World Surfing Games.
Usuna and McGonagle were two of the four chosen, the Afghan Afridun Amu and the South African Natasha Van Grunnen were also elected.
In this way, the body was formed as follows:

The commissioners will have their first meeting in October in Biarritz, France, when the ISA and IOC will outline the work to be done by the athletes' commission and provide training on the programs available to athletes.
“Athletes are at the heart of the ISA,” said ISA President Fernando Aguerre. “I look forward to working with the new members and the entire Commission to ensure that the voice of athletes is heard and promoted at an executive level.
