Lewis Hamilton recounted how he tried to surf the Giant Pipe and almost drowned

He suffered the worst blow of his life: “I almost drowned about three times,” he said on the well-known YouTube channel First we Feast

Formula 1 driver and surfing fanatic Lews Hamilton shared that the worst crash he ever took while surfing was at Pipeline with Kelly Slater.

He talked about it in an interview on the YouTube channel First we Feast, in which he tries different hot sauces and holds a conversation about different topics.

Hamilton said: “The worst wipe out I ever had was with Kelly Slater at Pipeline. It was like 20-foot waves and Kelly was like, ‘There’s no way you’re going in the water.’ As I was trying to paddle out, I was basically sucked into the kill zone. I turned around and saw four waves coming and I was like, ‘Oh no, it’s over. ’”

He added: “I went under, grabbed the reef and I could hear a wave breaking behind me, it ripped my board off, it broke in half. I came back up gasping for air and the next one was coming so I went under again and grabbed the reef again. I almost drowned about three times. But from there I was able to swim, but I thought, ‘Wow, big congratulations to these surfers. ’”

Hamilton has surfed at Slater's pool and has been seen hanging out with Kelly in Hawaii and other places around the world.

The driver has been a seven-time Formula 1 champion and is considered one of the best drivers in history.
