La Bocana local Porfirio Miranda was the best surfer of the day on the first day of the Surf City El Salvador Latin Pro, the fourth and final stage of the American surfing circuit supervised by ALAS.

The goofy footer, who said he surfs at least four hours a day on his wave, started surfing well in round 1 and winning his heat, but it was in round 2 when he showed the best of his surfing, scoring 17,17 out of 20 possible, made up of a 9 and an 8,17.

On his best wave, Miranda put together a couple of solid moves to exploit three consecutive explosive hits and reach the shore with other fill cuts.

When he got out of the water, he did not hide his joy and said in the live broadcast that he has not had the opportunity to show his surfing at big events and he is lucky to have the opportunity to do so now. He added that not long ago he rented out his surf shop so he could return to the water every day for about four to five hours a day.

He showed enough talent and competitive ability to win the championship.

Two full rounds of open men were held, the favorites won but there were good surfing demonstrations by a couple of locals like Erickson Ortiz and Jorge Rivas.

The biggest surprises of the day were the defeats of the outstanding Jason Torres in a very close series against his compatriot Joseph Mendes and that of the also Costa Rican Malakai Martínez against Porfirio Miranda and Lucca Mesinas.

Another loser was the defending champion, JJ Lopez of Venezuela, who was unable to beat Samuel Reidy and Anthony Fillingim of Costa Rica and his compatriot, the former Bolivarian champion, Derek Gomez, who was eliminated by Angelo Bonomelli of Costa Rica and Gefre Lima of Guatemala.

Others who stood out, in addition to Miranda, were two who have some of the best backside attacks in the world: Noe Mar McGonagle and Lucca Mesinas, who on the left of the Tunco stand as favorites if those walls reach them.

Tomorrow, the top seeds from this year's and last year's tour will enter the water, with rounds 3 and 4 of the event taking place.

The tournament starts at 7:00 am local time.
