London plans its first Wavegarden Cove

If the project worth more than 50 million dollars is completed, England will have two wave pools with this technology in the next few years.

Two Wavegarden Cove could be operating in England in the next few years if the company's plans, which were announced yesterday by the companies involved in networks and their sitios web.

The Wave, the same company that is already building a Cove in Bristol, is in negotiations to confirm the construction of another one at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, north of the British capital. According to the statement, the cost will be 40 million pounds and this would make London the first capital with a wave pool.

The process is still at an early stage of consultation with local communities and other stakeholders. In addition, a site analysis needs to be carried out and a planning application will be submitted based on this.

Commenting on the project, Shaun Dawson, chief executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, said: “Wave London will complement our existing world-class sports centres in the 26-mile-long Regional Park. “Lee Valley Leisure Complex was once a sewage and landfill site. A generation ago we built Europe’s largest leisure centre. Now we look forward to bringing inland surfing here to create an outstanding new leisure destination for the capital and the region. This marks another exciting chapter in Lee Valley’s history.”

Nick Hounsfield, Waves CEO, added: “We want to create a space where people can have an amazing time connecting with nature, each other and themselves. We know we can improve this space and encourage more people to get out into nature and get active.”
