The newest member of the T. Patterson surfboards team is the current Pan American champion, QS top and partial qualifier for Tokyo 2021, the Peruvian Lucca Mesinas, the athlete reported on social media after posting a video in which he is seen destroying the waves of Huntington with the legendary San Clemente board brand.

With this, Lucca becomes part of the same team as the current world champion, Italo Ferreira, Matt Archibold, Wiggolly Dantas and Sofía Mulanovich, among others.

“I got to know them mostly through my uncle Gino, who lives in Malibu. He’s always been a Tim Patterson. He knows the owners and Timmy too. He told me to go try out the boards, to try something new. I went. The people were super cool. Scott, who is the manager, and Timmy were also super cool. He helped me make some boards. We looked at the measurements and which boards would be the best to try out, and I made them,” Lucca told DUKE.

And she added: “One worked really well and the other one seemed a little strange to me because I ordered a strange model and then they made me another one so I could try another model and those worked really well for me at Lowers and Huntington… They are working really well for me almost everywhere.”

“So, they wanted me on the team, they offered me a good deal and I accepted. The boards are super good, I have the opportunity to talk a lot with Timmy, I went another day and I stayed talking with him for like three hours in the shaping room talking about boards, about what the CTs do and I liked that, having a good connection with the shaper, who is not just anyone, he is an incredible shaper. He told me that whenever I want I could go and talk to him to change anything on a board, give it the shape I want… These are things that help a lot in your surfing if you want to change something; if you have a good relationship with the shaper in the long term I think things work out pretty well,” he said.

“I really liked that and I agreed to be on the team because they gave me a really good deal there in California, so I accepted straight away. At Sharp Eye (his previous board brand), in California, they were charging me a lot and in Peru they were giving me a good price, but I preferred to go to Tim Patterson California,” he concluded.

For his part, the South American representative of the brand, Dario Milano, told DUKE: “We are very happy at Patterson Peru to be able to count on a super surfer and an incredible person like Lucca Mesinas on the team. Surely there will be great things to come with him, with Timmy making his boards in California and with me taking care of him when he is here in Peru. We are going all out so that in 2021 Lucca has super boards and can have a super performance in the QS and in the Olympic Games.”
