Lucia Indurain Pan American
A combination of events placed the Argentine in her debut in surfing at the Pan American Games and one step away from Tokyo 2020
Lucía Indurain was on a training trip in El Salvador when she received the call that changed her year and could change her life: A combination of situations put her in her surfing debut at the second largest multi-sport event on the planet, the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
This gives her at least a one in 16 chance of making it into surfing's Olympic debut.
The Argentine did not hide her joy on social media, and wrote: “What a huge joy! I have been confirmed that I have just qualified for the next Pan American Games in Lima 2019 representing Argentina in the Open Surf Ladies category. 'Wish it so much that the universe has no choice but to give it to you.'
In the following paragraphs he shares a little more of that joy in a short interview.
How did it come about that you were the one?
The truth is that several things have happened to achieve this classification, many events have come together and each competitor gave priority to the event that most interested him...
I had been on the verge of qualifying, due to a somewhat unfair situation in the last Pan American Games. So I think that what many told me was “divine justice” and I believe a lot in destiny and how they say that if it has to happen it will happen one way or another and if not, it was because it was not meant to be.
And after that, without losing faith, it happened!
How did they give you the news?
I am currently training in El Salvador, training hard at Puro Surf and they called me to tell me that I had entered. An incredible moment, really!
What did you say when you found out?
I couldn't believe it! It was incredible and I really just felt a huge feeling of gratitude to the universe, God, everything (laughs). It was incredible.
What are your plans from now on?
I'm returning to Argentina on July 2nd to fine-tune the details in the final days until we travel with the team to Peru with the delegation.
How do you get along with Punta Rocas?
Punta Rocas is a very powerful wave. It took me a while to get used to that body of water, but I think I've had a good amount of training in power waves and I'm ready.
This could get you into Tokyo 2020, how does this make you feel?
Tokyo is really everyone's dream, because it's the Olympics. It gives me goosebumps and I'm really excited!
