Lula signed a decree declaring Jaguaruna to be the biggest wave in Brazil
Chumbo Chianca surfed a wave of almost 15 meters there
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva signed a decree establishing Jaguaruna, in Santa Catarina, as the "National Capital of the biggest wave in Brazil," one of the wave's surfers, Thiago Jacaré, reported on his Instagram.
That is precisely where the Jaguaruna Laje is located, and where Chumbo Chianca slid down a giant bomb a couple of years ago.
“The President of the Republic announces that the National Congress decrees and I sanction the following Law:
Article 1. The municipality of Jaguaruna, in the state of Santa Catarina, is granted the title of National Capital of the Big Wave of Brazil.
Article 2. This Law shall come into force on the date of its publication.
Brasilia, July 7, 2026; 205th of Independence and 138th of the Republic,” the decree says.
The wave surfed by Chumbo was measured at 14,82 meters (see video).
