The second South American Adaptive Surfing Championship crowned its champions after a great day of competition last Sunday at Biología beach in Mar del Plata, the event's press department reported.

The Argentine Pablo Martínez, won the second championship in the AS6 category, for the blind.

In AS1 the best was the Brazilian Jonathan Borba, who also won for the second consecutive year, now carrying with him the silver medal in the world championship of the category.

The Argentine Rodrigo Mairal and the Uruguayan Christian Lepoivre were in the final.

"I'm very happy to compete in Mar del Plata, where people treat us very well. I also want to congratulate those who organized this event because it is important for inclusion. Everyone worked hard. As for the sea, it had very low waves but that's how it is and we had to adapt as best as possible," said Borba.

Among the ladies, in this category, Emma Brachi, from Villa Gesell, was runner-up, and Zoe Giannini took the title.

In AS2, meanwhile, Chilean César Alonso Piña Álvarez was champion in a final that he contested against Argentines Leonardo Céspedes, Leonardo Di Scala, Pascual Batione and Diego Imas.

The AS3 final was a one-on-one between Argentine Luciano Cruz Llosa, the champion, and Brazilian Marçal Leme Da Costa of Brazil.

"This achievement is very important, we have been working hard with my coach Lucas Rubiño. I really felt very good in the water even though the conditions were not easy," explained "Lucho."

The men's AS4 final was made up of only Argentine surfers and went to Sebastián Ruiz Díaz, who beat Nicolás Gallegos, Nicolás Valenzuela and Luciano Cruz Llosa. In the women's category, the champion was Uruguayan Isabela Deseno and second was Betina González from Chile.

In AS5, Colombian Freddy Marimon Blanco was crowned champion again, taking home another South American gold medal. The champion among the women was Georgina Melatini from Argentina, second was Monique Aparecida de Oliveira Silva from Brazil and third was Fernanda Yavarone from Uruguay.

In AS6 there were Pablo Martínez, from Mar del Plata and two-time champion, who is blind, together with Paul Michael Cabrera Contreras and Álvaro Pérez from Uruguay. "I experienced it with great emotion. But the truth is that for me the reward is that the sport grows. I competed against the same rivals as last year, we met again. More surfers also signed up. The sea was rough and the wind didn't help, but it was the same for everyone. The best thing about sport is the bonds that form outside the water," said Martínez.

Argentina's Rocío Rosales was crowned champion at ASI with assistance, beating her compatriots Federica Villar and Carmela Gil and Chile's Carla Jiménez Ponce in a close final. "I am very happy and I dedicate it to my coaches and my family, whom I love very much," said the champion.

In the ASI without male assistance, the winner was Argentine Sebastián Seta and in second place was Enrique Romero. "We are champions, I am very happy. This is for my coaches, my family and my friends from CREDE," he said while waving an Argentine flag along the shore.

In the men's ASI competition, Franco Larregina from Argentina was the best, narrowly beating his compatriots Jorge Barroca, Matías Sequeira and Martín Tansola. "Thanks to our coach Rodrigo and my family, I'm very happy," said the excited surfer.
