Marco Giorgi is injured and will miss the Hossegor challenger

The keel cut the tendons of his right thumb and he had to undergo surgery; he doesn't know if he will make it to the QS in Brazil

Uruguayan professional surfer Marco Giorgi suffered a keel-cut injury to the tendons on his big finger while surfing in Ericeira, Portugal last Thursday and will miss the Hossegor Challenger stage that begins this weekend.

According to a video he posted on Instagram, what initially seemed like a simple cut that could be resolved with a few stitches and a week, without taking him out of competition, ended up being something more complex.

Two doctors, the first in Mafra and the second in Lisbon, refused to treat him because they saw that the situation was more complicated. They called a plastic surgeon who explained that he was going to perform a rather complex surgery and that he would not recover 100% of the movement of his big toe.

Giorgi clarified that he has another appointment tomorrow, Wednesday, to determine the outcome of the operation, but that he believes that everything went well.

He is wearing a cast to prevent movement of his finger and says that although he will not be in France, he will evaluate whether he will be able to compete in the QS tournaments that will be held in Brazil next month.

If he doesn't get to compete, he says he'll apply for a wildcard due to injury.
