Mexican and Frenchman Marco Mignot and young Canadian Erin Brooks were crowned Rookies of the Year today in Tahiti.
For Mignot, the title came after his only contender for the award, Alan Cleland, lost in a hard-fought series to Ethan Ewing.
Meanwhile, Erin Brooks was officially named Rookie of the Year today simply by following protocol, as she had no other rookie competing against her.
Another news from the day's event is that Italo Ferreira's victory over Rio Waida guaranteed him a spot in the finals, leaving four surfers with two spots left.
