Chilean Rafael Cortez finished third, achieving his best result ever in a WSL event
Peruvian María Fernanda Reyes won the Rincon Surf Fest WSL North America Longboard Championships for the second consecutive year, a stage of the world longboard circuit that concluded this Sunday on the perfect waves of Domes.
Mafer defeated Callie Summerlin of the United States in a final that she dominated from start to finish, the WSL said in a statement. The final score of the series was 12,23 (6,33+5,9) to 8,44 (4,27+4,17).
According to the WSL statement, the Peruvian chose the waves well and showed her ability to walk the board and perform the most classic maneuvers of the discipline.
“It’s amazing to win this event once again, I’m really happy to be here, enjoying these beautiful waves again. I think I’m already in love with this beautiful place,” said María Fernanda, who added: “This was my last competition of the year and I’m happy that 2019 is ending like this for me, it’s definitely a great motivation to start next year.”
Tied for third place were Americans Karson Lewis and Mary Schmader.
In the men's category, Chilean Rafael Cortez achieved the best result of his career in a WSL event after finishing third in the championship. The Chilean went through three series until he met the eventual winner of the tournament, Steven McLean, in the semi-finals.
