Martín Ottado and Alfonso Roel won the under 18 and under 16 divisions respectively in the final stage of the Uruguayan youth surfing circuit that took place last Saturday at Montoya beach in La Barra de Maldonado.
It was a battle to decide who would make it onto the Uruguayan team that will travel to the ISA World Championships in Huntington Beach, as the champions had already been decided (Maximo and Gonzalo Vargas are this year's champions).
In small waves, both Ottado and Roel were consistent and climbed to the top of the podium. The former added 11 points to leave Lucca Cordone in second with 7,87 points, Martín Cantera third with 7,53 points and Alejo Marchant fourth with 5,57 points.
The second added 9,1 to leave Christian Ingrey in second with 5,9 points, Alejo Marchand third with 5,33 points and Gonzalo Vargas fourth with 4,5 points.
The Uruguayan Surfing Union announced in a statement that the top three in each division are guaranteed a spot in the selection. It clarified that if they cannot attend, they will be moved down the ranking to determine the members.
