Marvin Rodriguez was not expecting this invitation, so much so that he was already 100% immersed in university, ready to take a year off with less surfing and more studying.

"It's good to have a plan B," a surfer with a distinguished career, especially as a junior, being a three-time national champion, told DUKE.

But an invitation came that was too big to refuse: to participate in the trials and seek a place in the main event of the CT in his home country.

Following in the footsteps of Bryan Pérez, who from his position as a wildcard has played a huge role in defining the world titles.

So, he grabbed the board with everything he had and started to get himself into position for those 30 minutes that could earn him a memory for a lifetime and $10.000, which is the least a CT competitor earns.
