Santiago Medeiro from Punta del Este and Tiara Van der Huls from the Netherlands won stage 1 of the 2026 Uruguayan national circuit, the Medialunas Calentitas Cup presented by La Isla, which took place today in fun waves at Posta del Cangrejo.
Medeiro successfully navigated the five series in which he competed and ended up being key for him, arriving late in the grand final, which meant he was well positioned for his first wave that ended up being decisive for the final result.
Later he backed up that 5,33 with a 5,73 that came thanks to a wave in which he performed four powerful maneuvers.
Ottado managed to combine good maneuvers and finished the event in second place, Santiago González in third and Sebastian Olarte in fourth.
Meanwhile, the ladies were dominated by the young Dutchwoman Tiara Van der Huls from the Netherlands, a top player in the ISA world championships, who came to Uruguay on vacation and took the opportunity to compete in the event.
In second place, surfing well and competing well, was the legendary Celia Barboza, who at 48 years old surpassed Marcela Machado, the current national champion, who came in third and Jacinta Silvariño, fourth.
The Uruguayan circuit now continues through Montoya, where the second stage of the Río de la Plata Cup will take place between January 14 and 18 in Montoya.
