Medina can become a two-time champion in Portugal

Only by winning and with Filipe and Julian losing early, would he be crowned before reaching Hawaii

Brazilian Gabriel Medina can be crowned a two-time champion this week in Portugal only if he wins and Filipe Toledo finishes 13th or worse and Julian Wilson places fifth or worse. Any other scenario, Medina finishing second or Filipe placing ninth or better and Julian third or better, takes the decision to Hawaii.

This is what the WSL reported:

-Gabriel Medina, Filipe Toledo and Julian Wilson are the three contenders for the title

-In Portugal only Gabriel Medina can win the world title; Toledo and Wilson can only do so in Hawaii depending on a combination of results.

-If Medina wins in Portugal, Toledo will need to place ninth or better and Wilson third or better to take the final to Hawaii.

-If Medina places second or worse in Portugal, the title decision will go to Hawaii.

The way things started, Toledo is feeling the pressure, he dropped to round 2 while Medina and Wilson made it to round 2.
