Medina gained 2,7 million followers during the Games
Tati Weston Webb 647.000, are the fifth and ninth Brazilian athletes who gained the most followers
Gabriel Medina, largely due to the photo that went viral of him during the third day of Olympic surfing, gained 2,77 million followers in the nine days of Olympic surfing, reaching the 14,2 million mark, becoming the fifth Brazilian athlete who saw the most growth in his social media account.
Meanwhile, silver medallist Tatiana Weston Webb doubled her number of followers, going from 650.000 to 1,3 million and is the ninth Brazilian athlete with the most followers on the social network.
These data were released in the Brazilian press according to the consulting firm Social Blade/Artplan as reported by ESPN.
The first place in the ranking of Brazilian athletes who gained the most followers during this time is held by gymnast Rebeca Andrade, who gained 8,6 million followers during the games.
Something that surfing was not used to repeating itself, which happened in Tokyo 2020 for the first time, is that surfers are gaining fans from areas outside of surfing.
Italo Ferreira, for example, had gone from having one to three million on that occasion.
