"In my semi-final in Tahiti we saw that sometimes nature has things like that, right? So I think this would make the sport fairer, for sure," he said.

The Brazilian three-time world champion joined the defense of swimming pools so that Olympic surfing has “fairer results,” he said, in statements to Felipe Kieling de Band according to UOL picks up.

“I think it’s fair, I think we all have the same opportunities, right? I think it gives everyone a chance and we try to do our best, it’s more fair. In my semi-final in Tahiti we saw that sometimes nature has things like that, right? So I think this would make the sport more fair, for sure,” Medina said.

Medina waited 15 minutes for a wave that never came in his semi-final series against Jack Robinson in which he needed 6,01.

The wave never came.

At the start of the heat, Robinson won paddling priority from Medina in a battle to land a wave that earned him a 4,5.

Medina then made maneuvers for a 6,33 and Robinson improved with a 7,83.

Filipe Toledo was the first to speak out on this in the comments on AOS Mídia's Instagram asking for a pool, saying that Medina would have won the event if the waves had come in.

And now Medina himself did it.
