Medina won in Tahiti and moved into second place in the rankings

"Now I can start thinking about the title," said the Brazilian who turned the final around against Owen Wright in the last 90 seconds

Brazilian Gabriel Medina won the seventh stage of the world surfing circuit, the Tahiti Pro, beating an inspired Owen Wright in the grand final who seemed to have him under his belt, but the sea of Tahiti had other plans.

With 90 seconds left, the best series of the decision came, the Australian had priority and decided to go in the first, but the one behind was better, he gave a good tube to Medina and took the victory.

"I thought I had lost and I was praying, asking God to give me one more. I think God gave it to me, I feel blessed," he said at the awards ceremony.

“Tahiti is always good to me. I am very happy to win here again. I just want to thank God, I came, I trained hard and it is great to be back with the championship,” he added.

“Now I can start thinking about the title,” he concluded, referring to the fact that he is now second in the world rankings behind Filipe Toledo.

Meanwhile, Brazilian Filipe Toledo secured his third place, although Medina came close. Although he had spent a few weeks in Tahiti prior to the tournament, the fact that the waves were small every day played a big role in his favor.

This is how the top 5 turned out:
1- Filipe Toledo 41985 points
2- Gabriel Medina 35685
3- Julian Wilson 32380
4- Italo Ferreira 30160
5- Wade Carmichael 26550

With only one bad result on his scoresheet (a 13th at Bells), Toledo not only has a big lead but also has room to make mistakes in the stages that follow. Things are looking too good for him to become the third Brazilian to be world champion.
