Melania Suárez won the Pro Junior in Espinho, Portugal
In a 100% Spanish final against Nadia Erostarbe, the 14-year-old from the Canary Islands took the title. Among the men, Adur Amatriain and Tiago Carrique placed fifth.
The final was 100% Spanish, Suárez faced Nadia Erostarbe from the Basque Country, beating her with relative ease, 11,40 versus 5,67 in a decision that had good waves.
“I did well even though the conditions were difficult because of the wind,” Suarez told the WSL after winning. “It was difficult, I didn’t know I had won until I got to the beach.”
A few weeks ago Melania had announced that she was coming with everything with a one-and-a-half-minute clip where she was seen breaking through at home. She was able to translate this great performance into a major international tournament that featured several of the best in Europe.
And he's only 14 years old.

Erostarbe, meanwhile, had a great run on the way to the grand final. Once there, he was unable to find a backup for the five-point wave he surfed in the final and finished the series needing a 6,4.
Among the men, Adur Amatriain from the Basque Country and Tiago Carrique from Costa Rica had an outstanding performance, finishing fifth. The former lost to the German Lenni Jensen and the latter to the Frenchman Kauli Vaast.
