Mexican Coco Nogales nominated for the worst rap of the year at the Big Wave Awards
That crash that occurred during the Puerto Challenge made it into the top five finalists of the year at the Oscars for big wave surfing
The blow that Coco Nogales took during his round 1 heat of the Puerto Escondido Challenge ended up putting him among the five candidates for worst wipeout of the year, according to the WSL, which today informed all the finalists of the world big wave awards.
“(It was) definitely one of the worst wipeouts of my life, if not the worst!” Coco wrote on social media about it a few months ago. “There were just a few minutes left in my set and when this set of waves came I wasn’t in the best position, but I had to give it my all and the only way to know if I could get it down was to try, if you don’t try you’ll never know, but sometimes everything can go wrong and you pay the price.”
Nogales was nominated alongside Andrew Cotton, for that legendary hit in Nazaré, Billy Kemper and Eli Olson, who paid in Jaws, and Owen Schultz, who also took a hit in Zicatela. One of them will take home $5000.
The rest of the nominees are as follows:
