Mexican Enzo Ackerman won in Barbados
Cleland, Cabrero and Cassity made the podium; McGonagle and Mesinas secured their spots in the challenger series
Mexican Enzo Ackerman won his first WSL event after becoming champion of the Barbados JQS, one of the most competitive of the league season.
Ackerman scored 13,23 to leave Will Deane in second, Laird Lavik in third and his compatriot Lucas Cassity in fourth.
The result moved Ackerman up to sixth position in the 2026 ranking that qualifies for the WSL Junior World Championship.
"It doesn't seem real. I almost had a heart attack when they were seating me, and I just can't believe it. I've been visualizing and manifesting this victory for two months. Every night before going to bed and every morning when I wake up, and I can't believe it's happened. Being in the final with one of my best friends, Lucas [Cassity], was more than enough, and then winning it feels incredible," the Mexican player stated, according to the WSL.
"I'm so excited to represent my country and my home country. I want to thank everyone in Sayulita, all my friends, and my coach Ryan. If it weren't for him or my mom, I wouldn't be here right now. I just want to thank everyone who was a part of this. Guys like Alan [Cleland], who won this event as a junior, as a Mexican, was very inspiring, and I admire guys like him."
The event featured strong performances from the Mexican players, with Alan Cleland finishing second in the professional division. The CT member was ultimately defeated by Taj Lindblad in the grand final.
Lucca Mesinas finished fifth, adding one less point in his line, but finished second in the regional ranking and remains in the CS, one step away from the CT.
Meanwhile, among the women, Havanna Cabrero achieved a very good second place, but it wasn't enough to propel her into the CS rankings. She finished the ranking in 13th place.
With the North American ranking closed, the new members of the CS were defined; in addition to Mesinas, Leilani McGonagle was guaranteed.
The complete list is:
MEN: Taj Lindblad (USA), Lucca Mesinas (PER), Dimitri Poulos (USA), Josh Burke (BAR), Hayden Rodgers (USA), Lucas Owston (USA), and Luke Guinaldo (USA).
If Poulos, who competes in the CS and is 14th double qualifies, the next place will go to Owen Moss (USA).
WOMEN: Eden Walla (USA), Ella McCaffray (USA), Bailey Turner (USA) and Leilani McGonagle (CRC).
