The Punta Rocas Open Pro, the last event of 2022 of the WSL South America that will take place on the legendary southern break of Lima between November 15 and 20, already has more than 100 confirmed entries across the six categories that will be in competition.

The category with the most entries is the male pro youth category, which exceeds 40, followed by the male professional category, which is approaching 40. The female shortboard, professional and youth categories have close to 20 entries, and the longboard categories currently have around ten entries per division.

Among those registered are several important names such as the current leader of the ranking Miguel Tudela, the former world champions Leandro Usuna and Sofía Mulanovich, former regional, Pan American or ALAS circuit champions such as Francisco Bellorin, Gabriel Villarán, Daniella Rosas or Sol Aguirre.

Sol Aguirre will be fighting to make history for the continent if she manages to stay in first place in the ranking and win the first four-time South American championship in history. The Peruvian is already a three-time champion and shares the record with Brazilian Diana Cristina.

The other title at stake is the men's pro-youth title, which will be decided purely among Basel residents.

A recent change by the WSL meant that the Punta Rocas event will no longer define longboard champions but will instead be the second event of an integrated 2022 tour (with two stages, Saquarema and Punta Rocas) and those that will take place in 2023.

At the QS level, the event will add points to the ranking that qualifies the best eight men and four women for the challenger series. This ranking adds up the best four stages of all those held until April 2023. Peruvian Miguel Tudela is already guaranteed.
